Free Web Hosting Agreement

WCN is currently NOT accepting new applications for free webhosting.

Please read through this agreement. The Application Form is reached by clicking on the 'I agree' button at the bottom of this agreement

Please Note:
Hosting is only available for not-for-profit organisations in the Wellington region of New Zealand.

The basic principles behind the agreement are:

• To make WCN members aware that they are part of an online community who publish material for the public good.
  
  
• To ensure the online community has a code of practice adhered to by all.
  
  
• To recognise that the social and economic virtue of WCN lies in increasing the diversity of groups in Wellington who can publish to a global audience.

All members of Wellington Community Net need to read and agree with the following Conditions. If you break this agreement then your web site may be removed from the server and your membership of WCN may be revoked.

Conditions

A WCN member must be a not-for-profit and non-commercial organisation based in the Wellington Region.

WCN only hosts websites with .nz as the domain name suffix. Domain names using .co.nz are not accepted. Domain names without the .nz suffix will be considered if it can be shown that the name was registered prior to 2004 by the organisation applying for WCN membership and has been owned since then by that organisation.

As a member of Wellington Community Net we agree:

1. To use our web site for not-for-profit, non-commercial uses only. (This does not include promoting occasional community events such as a Ball or Gala).
   
   
2. That our site will contribute to the social, cultural or artistic life of Wellington.
   
   
3. Websites hosted on WCN must:
   1. Place a WCN logo on their home page or first page visible to visitors
      
      
   2. Ensure that the logo is displayed as one of the images below and not altered or resized in any way.

   3. Ensure that the logo is hyperlinked to the WCN site with the alt text shown below or alternatively place a text hyperlink to the WCN site as shown below.
      
      
   4. Ensure that the border attribute in the img tag is "0" as in the example code shown below.
      
      If you prefer, you can save a copy of the logo on your website then edit the 'src="http://www.wcn.net.nz/gfx/wcnlogo-120x84.gif" ' section of the link below to point to the actual location of your copy. eg: /images/wcnlogo-120x84.gif
      However, if you link directly to our copy then your site will automatically have the most current graphic.

   5. Display a valid default or homepage on our site at all times.
      
      

4. To inform WCN immediately if the contact details for the organisation and/or website administrator are changed.
   
   
5. To inform WCN immediately if the website is no longer required or has moved to another host.
   
   
6. That we have legal rights to provide the information on our site and that we have not copied images or content or to our knowledge infringed or broken copyright laws.
   
   
7. That our site will not contain offensive or overly negative material of a racist, sexist or pornographic nature and that our site will not condone, endorse, facilitate or in any other manner promote or encourage any illegal activity.
   
   
8. That Wellington City Council and Wellington ICT are not responsible for, and shall not be liable for, any legal action arising from our decision to publish information which is subsequently judged to be a breach of copyright and/or illegal.
   
   
9. We will not attempt to tamper with or alter any sites on WCN other than our own or to copy or intercept email messages for other groups.
   
   
10. To keep our traffic charges at a reasonable level. We agree to remove any material from our site that is unreasonably expensive to access. This includes software libraries, streamed video and other 'data heavy' content.
    
    
11. That it is our responsibility to maintain a full and functional backup of the live website and ensure that we carry out backups prior to and after website updates.
    
    
12. To adhere to reasonable standards of best-practice for our website and be amenable to a periodic review of the subject, information and presentation format by a panel of WCN users, technical support personnel, graphic designers, which may suggest changes in the information, access system, and/or presentation format.

Reminder:

Failure to meet any of these conditions will, at the discretion of the Wellington ICT, lead to removal of the hosted website and furthermore membership of WCN may be revoked.
